April 22, 2021 Reflection

Today in class we looked at a few people's bio and pointed out the good and bad points of their bios. I was fortunately picked in class to get advice from Mr. Paterson and there were a few points in both my writing and in my picture that I needed to change. Firstly in my picture, the fact that the picture was blurred in the back was a good thing, but the fact that I was facing forward in the picture and not slanted gave it a too formal look and was too boring to be a picture in a bio. Another thing I should have focused on is taking a picture of where I am doing something.  I thought that because I mentioned doing football in the bio, I wanted to have some pictures of me doing a sport so I would like to get a picture like that. Secondly, on the writing part, I had one part where I wrote, "mostly white population" and Mr. Paterson pointed out that just because someone is white doesn't mean that they were going to speak English.

  International disputes and media manipulation are problems we face in the current world engendering casualties and conflicts between countries. Today, we scrutinized the Israel and Palestinians' territorial quarrel. We learned that the origin of the fight started because the unassailable countries such as the UK and US supported the Jewish refugees to move into the Palestine territory and continued to support and suppress the Palestinian government. Because the United States and United Kingdom government supported the Jewish and were in favor of them taking over the land, the news was manipulated in a way to encourage the Jews and chastise the Muslims. At first glance, it may seem obvious that these kinds of manipulation are inappropriate and disgraceful for a company that epitomizes telling the truth to the viewers, but this may sound like a devil's advocate, but I find it quite scintillating and clever and shows how easily humans could be fooled by just the smallest changes...

February 2, 2021 Reflection

 In today's class, we did a creativity activity, where you try to build the highest stool for a marshmallow made from spaghetti. Our group came in 2nd with an hourglass-shaped tower. After doing the activity, we were shown research done by several people showing that younger kids were more successful in the challenge. Business people or people who major in business seemed to have the most trouble in building the tower. In addition, when there is a prize to be fought for, I learned that more people would fail. We also learned that from Mr. Paterson's experience, Japanese people had the most trouble making a standing tower.  One interesting thing about this activity is that it trains more than just creativity. I have done this experiment in elementary school but was done with the purpose of team building. The goal was to be able to communicate with fellow classmates and not, to think outside of the box. April 28, 2021 Reflection

 In today's class, we learned about how 25% of the American milk industry uses a drug to increase milk production from a cow. We were told that the FDA approved of this atrocity and had fooled American families for years. In the discussion, we consulted about rather the public should have the right to know.  In my opinion, I believe that yes the consumers should know what kind of milk they are consuming. The video stated that RBGH (the drug) was approved by the FDA because they were told that it would not have a negative effect on either the cow or the humans though, in reality, the cow has to suffer from an overload of milk compiling in their bodies.  On top of that after a bit of research, I found out that having a large intake of this substance can lead to a high risk of cancer. I am not sure of the regulations and criteria for their inspections but I thought that this should have somehow come upon the FDA's radar and I don't think that it would be too late to check as...
