Book Reflection Week 2 Chapter 6-10

I would like to start merging the chapter reflection the more chapters I go because I do not feel the need to write long summaries for each chapter as they mostly just continue from one another and because I would not have to explain things like I did in the first few chapters.

Chapter 6:

I forgot to write this in the last post, but the book is mainly divided into 3 main parts, and Part 1 titled Pamela is focused around the character Pamela and is consisted of chapters 1-5. But, although it has Palmela in the title, it also talks about other characters too. Chapter 6 was the start of Part 2 titled Ben and it starts off in Wormwood Scrubs prison Acton, West London with Ben Cresswell, son of Reverend Cresswell, vicar of All Saints Church at an M15 base covered to look like a prison. It starts off with him exiting the "prison" as he greets the guard with the same joke every time. He was heading to the tube station when he was stopped by a man who criticized him for not being in the army and doing easy work while the other people actually go to the war and fight. Ben explained how his leg was injured in an airplane crash and how he couldn't bend his knees because of that. After the man apologizing for his prejudice, it ends with him being called up to meet someone in Dolphin Square.

    Thoughts:

In this chapter, we are newly introduced to another character and it book explains where he is and the kind of person he is mainly with the conversation with a man that seemed irrelevant. In the Prologue, we are told that Jeremy Prescott and Ben like to go flying in Jeremey's plane, and if we connect the dots between the last part where we are told that Jeremy had came back and Ben saying that he injured his leg in a plane crash to know that Jeremy and Ben were on a plane flying together and for some reason, they crashed and Jeremy was captured by the Germans while Ben was able to escape.

Chapters 7-8

In this chapter we see Ben getting his new assignment as a spy to find out who the person that fell into the Sutton family's yard was. There were rumors and ideas that the person who dropped in was actually a spy to get or send a message to someone close by and failed to open their parachute, so Ben was ordered to find who the message was supposed to be sent to. After Ben asked why they chose him to spy on the neighborhood, Maxwell Knight who he didn't know much except for the fact that he was a person with high authority said that Ben grew up with a good education even with a scholarship and, he was neighbors with the Suttons.

    Thoughts

Because not a lot happed during these two chapters as it was mostly just them talking to each other, it was slightly hard to have much of a reaction but one reason I thought that this chapter was so long was that because this would be one of the main plots of the story.

Chapters 9-10

The chapter starts with Pamela getting ready to go home for a week and talks to Trixie about how she was lucky to go home and asked if she faked the fainting just to go see Jeremy. After a little talking, she heads to the train station to go home when she meets Ben waiting for a train. As said in the last chapter, Ben had to go home for reasons he could not say, so they had to go home telling each other that they did boring clerical work even though they both had real jobs. The story starts to drift to Jeremy (Bestfriend of Ben and lover of Pamela) and they talk about meeting him when they get home. Ben offers that because his house is on the way to the Prescott's that they should first go to his house and get some rest with a tea and then go to Jeremey's house. In chapter 9 is a chapter where the Creswell parents, Ben and Palmela. They talk about not being able to tell them what they do for their jobs because they swore secrecy and get some tea before leaving to meet Jeremy. The chapter ends in front of the Prescott house when Diana comes out of the house and greets Pamela. We see the face of Pamela both scared to go in, confused about why Diana was here and excited to meet Jeremy again.

    Thoughts:

One part of chapter 9 that stood out to me is when Ben asked his father to take Palmela to Jeremy's house and his father told him that he was a grown adult and didn't have to ask for permission about everything he did. The reason this part stood out to me was that it seemed like an unnecessary sentence as the story would have gone the same way even if this part was not in the story. I still don't know why this sentence was here and I would like to look out for any hints that may lead to why these two people had this unnecessary conversation.
