LE Reflection Blog

Today we resumed on the feedback for our websites. There were several things that we were told to fix in the presentation. Though most of them were simple mistakes, they greatly damaged the authenticity of the website. For example, the title had a spelling error that I didn't notice, and the book cover on the front page had one hyperlinked image when the other two didn't. Others included on the design of the website for example, how because the writing next to the picture was not as large so it had a gap without anything in it so I would have to squeeze the writing to make it the same size as the picture. Finally, I had to make a drop-down for each of the pages to prevent phone users to have to scroll through the whole website. 

Today, I did my presentation feedback and got back the things I needed to do before I turn the essay back in in December. For the presentations, the first thing I would do is move the influences slide to the about the author slides. I had it in my critique because the influences may have varied from how we interpreted the story, but it was more of an informational fact about the book so I was told to bring it in the About the Author. Other than that I had to fix my photo credits. Firstly, the pictures weren't aligned on both sides. I aligned them on the left side of the slide because the size varied but I should've adjusted it on both sides. I also had to shorten the links using bitly. For my essay, most of the edits I still had to do were from the turn it in grade. I would like to start doing these fixes soon. 

Good Point: One idea I implemented in the slide were the colors I used in the background. At first, it may look as if I picked random colors for the background and thought this may be half true some things were put in the slide for a reason. In the contents slide, I had different colors correlating with the author, summary, and opinion slide. By using the colors I used in the content slide, it allows the viewers to know what I am talking about without having to use too many words on top.  Bad points: Slides                                                                                                                         ...

Today was the second day to practice presentations to our groups. In our group only one person had not gone, so we did watch the presentation and gave back feedback. One thing I liked about her presentation was that it was simple with the pictures. Most of the pictures were simple silhouette of people, and not much on it so it was easier to concentrate on the presentation. But, one thing that other people said and I agreed with is the amount of words she put in the slides. Thought the pictures were simple some parts had sentences explaining a certain disease and that made it hard for me to focus on what she was saying. Because she was the only one who hadn't presented we didn't have much to do after she was done. So, I started to fix my presentation. Today, the thing that I fixed was the one last thing page and I put the picture of the thing I was talking about ( The noble lit. prize) and not just a plain background.  Today we did our fine tunings on our presentation while Mr.Paterson taught the new kids all about the class. Because I did most of the presentation practice at home, there was not much to do today. But, I noticed that I did not do the flipgrid so I was practicing to do it at home. At the end of the class, Mr. Paterson told us that we did not have to do our presentation on Thursday. Even though I had most of the practice done at home, I was still relieved to know that I had more time to practice. One thing that I still need to practice is to talk louder. Because of COVID, we have to do the presentations with our masks on. As an effect of this, our voices would be more suppressed then it would usually be. Therefore, we have to project our voice more than usual. This is something that I would like to practice in the next class because we have time to do that. 

The Corona Virus also known as COVID-9 caused many challenges throughout the semester for students all around the world.  We see a lot of negative aspects that arise in the pandemic includes the stay at home time, or the separated school, and the social distance class. But in our class (LE) some of these problems were not so much devastating as it seemed. For example for the quarantine time, because most of the work was already done online, it didn't seem to feel that different. Some parts like being able to work from home was actually a positive for this class. The only downside I had with this was that we were not able to do group work so it was hard to get assessments of other people. Even when we came to class as only have of us, the most difference I felt was that there were fewer people in the class, and most of the things we did were the same so I didn't feel much of a difference there too. Today we got our grades back for the essay，so we were told to fix mistakes on our essay. Some of these included wrong verb tense, awkward sentences, grammar issues, and plagiarism problems. Many of the grammar issues were those that were easy to fix, except for one part where I made the sentence unclear. One example of a grammar mistake was using "have" in a past tense sentence. Others were the title and the comment said that it sounded more like a sentence than a title. To fix this I think it would be better to make the title shorter and making it easier to read. For example, I could change it from "A sensational book teaching us about the importance of civilization" to something shorter
