June 9, 2021 Reflection

In this day's class, we started by clarifying the definition of bias. During our lessons on the media, we often use the word bias as a way to chastise media manipulation, but as we used this word, it started to drift into a different meaning which was false and misguiding in a way. I would like to be more careful on how I use vocabulary going on, as I try to use new and challenging words on these blogs as a way to improve my English.

After the short introduction, we were broken into groups of 4 to talk about the document we made on how we would teach a class of university students on the topics we were taught. Some things other members in my group stated was that they would do things in a sort of routine in order to get used to what they will do in each class. This would allow for students to be prepared for the next class as they would somewhat already know what they are going to do. Notwithstanding, I disagreed with this idea because I thought that this routine would make the class dull and uninteresting. Doing things in a routine especially for something we may not enjoy like learning, would just make the students feel like they are going in circles every week without any progression. That is why instead of a circular image that my team members thought of, I insisted that we do it in chronological order. By implementing this timeline image for a class, the students would always be intact that the most current thing while having the sensation of always learning something new.

Another difference we had when we were introducing our idea was when we would watch the documentary. Few of the other people in my group said that they would show the documentaries at the beginning of the course as a way to introduce the topic to the students. I thought that this was the opposite because, unlike a class where the teacher is teaching with the intention of teaching the students, documentaries are made for watching for fun or to further deepen one's understanding of a topic. Therefore, I believe that watching the documentaries is most fit to be watched towards the end of the curriculum when the students already have the basic knowledge of the topic.

With the remanding few minutes of class we chose groups for the new project which was on making news website.
