Book Reflection Week 4 Chapter 20- 29

 Chapters 20-22

After the party at the Prescotts house, Pamela goes home and notices that her house was on fire. Farleigh has been bombed and the Sutton house was on fire. Ben was also going back hone notice the fire and rushed over the house unconsciously thinking about Pamela. After hearing that the youngest child Phoebe was still in the house, Ben rushes into the house and saves Phoebe. While saving Phoebe she demands that she need to save "Gumble" and not sure what it was she goes up to find this person. When he went to the next floor, he sees Pamela saving an unconscious woman in a peculiar room. Palmela said that this was Gumble, Phoebe's governess but the room was filled with papers and had a telescope in the corner of the room. curious about what it was, Pamela and Ben carried Gumble down the stairs to a safer place to call the soldiers to carry her out. After the fire was put out, Gumble who was conscious and cured said that she wanted to go up and get her papers.

    Thoughts:

After the man falling into the field and now being bombed, it started to feel as if the culprit had something to do with the Sutton family as they are receiving these attacks. We also see the relationship between Pamela and Ben growing while we feel the distance between her and Jeremy.

Chapter 23

We start in Paris where Margaret wakes up and tries to escape while Armande wasn't in the room, but after being told to and play along with the Germans she stops and eats breakfast. Then Margaret was told that she was going to be released under one agreement. She convinces her French lover to confess and gives them information on the resistance. She agrees and tries to get him to confess, but the man betrays and says that it was Margaret's fault for staying and he didn't care for her. Both sides trying to get the other to give up, Margaret gets her fingernail pealed while the French man sat there without taking a glance.

    Thoughts:

I thought that switching between these two settings gave us a fresh mind every time the setting changed gave us a fresh sensation every time so I thought it was a cool detail that made this book better. The way the French person acts may seem foolish but the way he ignored Margaret may had actually been for her.

Chapters 24-25

Ben who is suspicious of Gumble offers to help clean up with her to take a look at the things that she was writing. Ben notices that she had many papers on the Wars of Roses and started to take interest in that. Getting this new information, his week was up, and had to go back to the base at Dolphin Square. He reports the findings to Knight Maxwell and is told to go back and sneak into her room and try to find something on her.

Chapters 26-27

Palmelas' break was also done and had to go back to work. Jeremy offered to drive her to work but Palmela politely rejected which showed doubt in their relationship. When Palmela got to work, she was told to meet the commander. She was told that she was going to be transferred into trying to find hidden codes in the messages the British newscast located in Germany sent. It was rare for a woman to get such a high-level job as they mostly just do clerical tasks.

    Thought:

Considering how rare it was for a woman to get such a high-level job, it showed how smart and talented Palmela was. Her planning skill go beyond regular people as she is able to use her time in a conservative and effective way and is able to balance two lives at once. These kinds of aspects of the characters are clearly shown throughout the chapter and is a good way to develop characters in a deeper way.

Chapter 28

Ben who was sent back to the house now had to sneak into the Suttons' house. He used that excuse that he lost a button when he was helping Gumble cleaning up and somewhat is able to go inside the house. He tries to look around but nothing seemed out of ordinary and decides to leave without getting any information. But Ben was seen by Phoebe who told Alfie that because they were the first to find the body and that nobody would expect it, that they should find who the parachute person was and says that she saw Ben in Gumbles' room doing suspicious things.

    Thoughts:

As many of the other things in this story are emotional and mental challenges that the characters face, this transition of action and adventure thriller again gives out a fresh feeling when reading. It is ofter easy to get bored if the storyline is always the same, but changing the setting and the genre one in a while, allows the reader to always be engaged in the story.

Chapter 29

Back in Paris Margaret is mad at the French man for betraying her. But Madame Armande explained that by acting like she was nothing he was making sure that she wasn't involved in the torture anymore and got her off the list. After that, she goes deeper into who she is and why she is able to stay this free in enemy territory.
